Day Dreaming

I was heading in to work
you know like any other day
when something on the news
made me wanna stop and say
will today be the day that i finally make the switch
when i run some people over
or i drive into a ditch
Or is it going to be my chance to get my AK
Pop in the catridge and lay me down some spray
Or maybe it's the chance to help the haters discredit my race
by killings others like me right before their face
These types of things they make me crazy and I do not understand
How we can spend so much time chasing and blaming things on the man
when it all comes down to you or it all comes down to me
we have to stop and take a moment
and hope we can still see 'The Dream'

Oh it makes me wanna scream
the dream
Remembering Martin Luther King
the dream
Why do our children keep on murdering
the dream
Young people take your future back
and try to catch
the dream

I wish i had the answer
and i know so do you
it's hard to climb a ladder
when you're beaten black and blue
by images and preconceptions
from stereotypes and generalizations
snippets and video editing
being pumped onto your flat screen
all because some are betting
they can finally kill 'The Dream'

Oh it makes me wanna scream
the dream
Remembering Martin Luther King
the dream
Why do our children keep on murdering
the dream
Young people take your future back
and try to catch
the dream

But let's understand and let's finally get the picture
none of this will even matter, and it won't make you any richer
if you don't care about yourself or the image of your people
You may say i don't know about how it really is
and that may well be true
but i'm not killing other kids
If that is what takes to get a clue
or for me to keep it 'real'
to that i can't be true
and i'm sorry i can't 'deal'
I hope these words are gaining steam
And i hope you see 'The Dream'

Oh it makes me wanna scream
the dream
Remembering Martin Luther King
the dream
Why do our children keep on murdering
the dream
Young people take your future back
and try to catch
the dream

Rappers keep on postin
Talkin about their paper
They keep on boastin
remember back in the day
when you didn't have thing
it was hard to find your way
and all you could do is sing
tHEN AND THERE YOU HAD A DREAM
But once you got to where you wanted
all the dollars that you flaunted
out there kickin up dust
butinstead of sitting at the front
you're at the back of the bus
by the way you act
It must seem fun to have a gun
to bust a few shots just for fun
to see the people cut and run
You've got your fame you got shine
and you think that's bottom line
screaming about the money that you got
about the people that you shot
Your teeth and how you grill it
You got the trigger you'll pull it
One of your listeners cut you down
standing in that gangsta lean
he's been living in the gutter
and blinded by the anger and the cream
It would have been so much better
If he could have caught 'The Dream'

We have to teach our children what we've been fighting for
not from a forum, but one on one. I know it's hard and i don't know how to stem the tide of violence going on across the nation. But I pray that soon there will be change in us.
